Guest guest
I visited Nagoya to attend the press conference of Ombudsman Aichi yesterday. The group sued the Nagoya Port Authority to stop the budget of buying orcas for Nagoya Aquarium. Seven local people became the accusers and four lawyers for the plaintiff. Lawyer Fukushima, the leader of the group said that to keep such large animals like orca in the small tank is animal abuse and it is against humanity. The purpose to pay \350,000,000yen for wild orcas is simply to attract customers and not for academic study. Therefor, it might violate the spirit of CITES. I think this is the first court case to talk about animal welfare in Japan. This case is really interesting because the group is not the one to work for animal rights.
