Guest guest
Hi All, I forwarded the post about attempts to consider re-capture of Keiko to someone who had past contact with him. I would like to share the reply I received " The sickness continues on every side of the fence for poor Keiko. Everyone using him to turn a buck or hype their cause and when you think about it there just isn't any easy way for it to go away. Touching this huge animal and being close to him is an experience that stays with any of us who have been there, and he likes people. We can set him free but he is bonded and we are his family. So what is the solution? Make him hate us so he will go away and live a solitary life away from the places and people he chooses. The kindest thing is to leave the choices up to him, and confinement in a tiny pen with the boredom and all that goes with it is probably not to his choosing at this time. He is just a wild animal now that is unafraid of people, seeks their company and would seem to regard them as friendly, funny little Orcas that really like him. MIAMI SEAQUARIUM HAS APPLIED TO THE NATIONAL MARINE FISHERIES SERVICE TO CAPTURE, IMPORT KEIKO , FOR PUBLIC DISPLAY! IF CFN REALLY MEANS CETACEAN FREEDOM NETWORK ALL ON THIS LIST NEED TO JUMP INTO ACTION!!! THE APPLICATION WILL NOT REACH FED REGISTER FOR A TIME, BUT WE NEED TO INSIST TO NMFS TO REJECT THE APPLICATION AND RETURN IT TO SEAQUARIUM. WE NEED TO DEMAND FROM ARTHUR HERTZ HE IS MAKING A BIG MISTAKE HERE AND MUST WITHDRAW THE APPLICATION. I HAVE CALLED TWO MEDIA OUTLETS. SPREAD THIS FAR AND WIDE! NORWAY STILL HAS STATED THAT KEIKO IS SAFE THERE, BUT WE NEED TO HIT HARD HERE IN THE US, AND ALSO ASK NORWAY TO NOT ALLOW ANY CAPTURE OR INTERFERENCE WITH KEIKO'S PROGRESS. HERE ARE THE CONTACTS: Gene Nitta, Director of Protected Resources, NMFS email gene.nitta phone 301-713-2289 , fax 301-713-0376. T he Ministry of Fisheries can be reached via email postmottakpostmottak or phone +47 22 24 90 90 or fax +47 22 24 95 85. > LET'S STOP THIS INSANE IDEA BEFORE IT GETS TO THE FED . REGISTER! WITH ENOUGH PRESSURE FROM WORLDWIDE WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO KEEP KEIKO FREE!! DO IT FOR KEIKO , THE OTHER POOR CAPTIVES, AND OURSELVES. It is important to note that the take now housing Lolita is sub- standard, make it a point to let the officials know this. If it isn't big enough for one Orca, how can it house two? Also, Lolita and Keiko are from two totally different parts of the world. What is Mr. Hertz thinking about, other than his already fat wallet?
