More than 6,000 turtles confiscated in Thailand

 

 

BANGKOK:Thai authorities have seized 6,136 live protected turtles as they were

being transported through the country to Taiwan, police said yesterday.

 

Five Thai nationals were arrested and charged with illegal trafficking and

possession of species protected under Thailand & #146;s Wildlife Preservation and

Protection Act.

 

& #147;They were part of the same trafficking gang that police uncovered in the

northeast and have been monitoring closely for quite some time, & #148; said an

officer in Bang Len district on Bangkok & #146;s western outskirts.

 

The rare turtles, whose species were not identified, were found in

Thailand & #146;s central Nakhon Pathom province. & #151; AFP
