Let tigers roam freely in forest reserves

ANOTHER tiger was trapped a few days ago in Kelantan. It is likely that more

will suffer the same fate soon because of the massive effort taken to hunt them

down.

Newspaper photographs of tigers in cages and of their carcasses appear more

regularly these days.

Whenever a tiger injures or kills a human, efforts will be taken to hunt down

the animal mercilessly.

Don & #8217;t we realise tiger attacks are usually the result of human

encroachment on their home and territory?

It is an animal & #8217;s natural instinct to protect its young and territory.

The killings of tigers must stop. Capturing and putting them in zoos is not a

good solution either.

Tigers do not breed too well, if at all, in captivity. So, what is the

difference between putting them in zoos and killing them?

We already have enough tigers in zoos to educate the public, so

“relocating & #8217; & #8217; captured tigers to forest reserves may be a better

idea.

The money and effort spent in capturing them could be used to fence settlements

and plantations where tigers are known to roam.

Settlers must be informed that tigers are endangered and need a home to survive

and reproduce.

Shoving endangered animals, like tigers, into zoos is a shameful thing to do,

especially when they are the ones who are provoked and which merely react to

protect themselves and their young.

Tigers and other wild fauna of Malaysia have a rightful place in our country.

Seremban.
