This programme made me realise how important conservation is in today & #8217;s society. I realised how critical things can become as a result of the human act. Seatru & #8217;s efforts in promoting Stop is to cultivate an awareness of turtle conservation in our not-so-conservation-minded society and draw international attention to this issue. Through Seatru & #8217;s efforts, we hope to increase our sea turtle population in the next few decades. Can you imagine that decades ago in Chagar Hutang beach on Pulau Redang, Terengganu, one can witness the whole beach covered with hundreds of leatherback turtles which had come ashore to lay eggs. Nowadays it & #8217;s so hard to find even a single leatherback. Dr Sunny Tan, try to understand the whole situation and be in it before you say anything. Do you think we like to be in the dark, staying awake and suffering from mosquitoe bites just to have what you call “fun”? Do you think we enjoy being under the scorching afternoon sun patrolling the beaches, chasing away monitor lizards and covering up hermit crab holes? Do you think it & #8217;s fun for city-dwellers to live in an environment where there is no electricity and piped water supply? Think about it. As an academician, you should know better. All the volunteers are willing to give up their easy and comfortable life temporarily because we care. We care for the sea turtles, we care for the world and we care for the generations to come. With your article, you have dismissed the hard work put in by the people behind the Seatru project.
