ZIVOT Davorko Feil, president _________ Davorko Feil ICQ#: 166488162 zivot How can anybody send any animal to Japan and trust them ?The way they kill whales is disgusting. The cage in Croatia is not enough for the two elephants to turn even. This is very cruel. The Japanese government is forcing our country to start a hydropower project in Upper Kotmale . That project will destroy 7 waterfalls of Sri lanka. That will destroy endemic fauna and flora in up country and will change the climate in the country. There would be earth slips which would destroy a large area in up country. A Japanese company would be doing the constructions work for the project. It was reported that the Japanese Government has threatened to cut down Japanese aid to Sri lanka. ..Please send your views to THE Prime Minister of Sri lanka and ask him to not to send these two elephants to Croatia or Japan .At present 3 elephants are killed per week in Sri lanka. We are not in a position to export our animals . Prime Minister Mr. Ranil Wickramsinghe e.mail pm_sec SRI LANKA: April 30, 2002 COLOMBO - Sri Lanka gifted two baby elephants yesterday to Japanese children who were saving their pocket money to buy a jumbo for a zoo in Croatia. A group of Japanese children began pooling their pocket money for an elephant after they were moved by reports about the impact of the recent conflict in the Balkans on a zoo in the Croatian city of Osijek.Seven Japanese children wrote to the Sri Lankan government for help and visited the country last year to find a suitable animal.Their efforts were rewarded yesterday when Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe gave them two elephants. The children will give one to the Osijek zoo and take the other back to Japan to mark 50 years of diplomatic ties with Sri Lanka. Actually Eath Athuru Sevana and Pinnawela are orphanages which bring up baby elephants whose parents have died. The Department of Wild life should work hard to protect the animals so that there would be no more orphaned elephants. They should ask the department to target that achievement.
