SUPPORT AR IN SPAIN/INVITATION TO AN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ANIMAL PROTECTION IN SPAIN

Dear Friends ,

 

Last november 15 dogs were brutally mutilated and blooded to death in the

premises of a Spanish shelter. Then, our organization started a campaign to

modify legal protection of animals in our country, asking misdemeanours (the

only current punishment for those actions) to be changed into felonies. Along

with that campaing, we collected near 600.000 signatures from Spanish citizens

supporting our request, which were delivered to the Spanish Governement in

february 12th.

 

Nevertheless, Spanish government rejected to modify the Penal Code in that way,

and considered those acts as " isolated " actions. Spain is a country where

animals strongly need to be protected, so we are deeply concerned about it, and

have summoned an International Conference (detailed below) as an additional way

to face animal defence.

Barcelona - November 7, 8, 9 - 2002 "

 

 

 

The Charities " Fundación Altarriba, Amigos de los Animales " and

" Fundación Trifolium " summon an International Conference, which will take place

in the premises of the headquarters of the University of Barcelona on the 6th,

7th and 8th day of November 2002. This event is meant to be a further

contribution to the current debate expected to achieve better and fairer laws

for animals in Spain.

 

The Charities " Fundación Altarriba, Amigos de los Animales " and

" Fundación Trifolium " , take this opportunity to elicit the support and the

attendance of all those, persons and organizations, within and outside Spain,

who feel and comprehend the need for a moral and ethical attitude of our society

towards our friends, the animals.

 

Although the Charities " Fundación Altarriba, Amigos de los Animales "

and " Fundación Trifolium " are the entities in charge of the summoning and

organization of this conference, the same should be regarded as a unitarian act

of Spanish animal protection movement. The purpose of this event is to be seen

in the will to jointly take a further step towards animal welfare and protection

in this country

" Fairer and more effective laws for animals "

Barcelona - November 7, 8, 9 - 2002

Barcelona, an essential forthcoming meeting for animal protection in

Spain

From the last days of next October, and along the first week of

November, Barcelona will focus the attention of the whole country concerning the

problems of animal protection. The axis of this event will be the International

Conference on Animal Protection in Spain, to be held on the 7th, 8th and 9th day

of November 2002, in the premises of the headquarters of the University of

Barcelona.

 

It is an opened action which, on the theme Fairer and more effective

laws, will also deal with Violence against the weakest (based on the fact that

mistreatment and cruelty against animals are usually the cause of a later

violence against people) and questions concerning education, on the theme An

ethically and morally more concerned society.

 

We are arranging a large program of parallel acts around this

International Conference (lectures, press conferences, presentations,

exhibitions, etc.); on the other hand, animal protection entities,

intellectuals, politicians, professionals, etc., have already announced their

intention to attend the Conference. On the whole, they will turn Barcelona into

a meeting point for those people who feel as essential the real protection of

animals and want to move our society forward the respect of their lives.

 

 

We shall welcome entities, involved or not in animal protection,

interested to plan any particular activity in favour of the animals during the

above mentioned dates. We just ask to let us know about it for a better

coordination, and to avoid day and/or time overlaps.
