TOKYO (AP) -- Japan will put nearly 2,000 tonnes of

whale meat from research hunts conducted from November

last year on sale in wholesale markets across the

country, officials said Friday.

The government-linked Institute of Cetacean Research's

annual minke whale meat sale will take place between

July 31 and Aug. 31, institute spokesman Takumi

Ikeshima said.

The whales were killed during expeditions in the

Antarctic Ocean between November 2001 and May this

year.
