Being an animal lover myself and an owner of exotic pets, I agree with your comment about irresponsible pet owners who keep exotic pets just for kicks. However, I do believe that there are some exotic pet owners who are genuine and sincere about keeping such pets. I & #8217;ve always been captivated by the animal kingdom since I was a boy. Now, at 25, I have many pets, among which are dogs, hamsters, birds, squirrels, spiders, fishes, a snake and a green iguana. I & #8217;ve always tried my best to be responsible in keeping them healthy. I buy them from responsible pet shops which breed them in captivity and do not obtain them from the wild. As you can see, not all exotic pet owners are the same and they should be given a chance to keep, breed and admire these beautiful creatures. I believe individual pet owners have as much right as any zoo in keeping and loving these pets. If owners buy their pets from farms that cater for breeding purposes, it & #8217;s not all that bad. Many of these animals, if released into the wild, will die eventually. All animals are born with instincts but if they have been bred in a farm, their chances of survival in the wild are slimmer. Owning exotic pets may even promote recovery of some endangered animals as it could result in an increase in population of that species. On the issue of adopting animals from our zoo, that is out of the question. It & #8217;s even more expensive than keeping the animal on your own. Besides, think of the procedures you have to go through. One can only imagine the obstacles these sponsors have to face. Our zoo is also not as well maintained as it should be. If I were to donate my pets to the zoo, there is no knowing what will happen to them. In all fairness, it must be said that maintaining a zoo is not easy. Animals do help us become better people. It is up to the owners to be responsible and take good care of their pets.
