I can state positively and catergorically that the answer to both your

questions is 'no'.

There have been no known cases of BSE in either Australia or New Zealand,

and no, the only part of a cow from which you can contract New Variant CJD

is the spinal cord. Unfortunately, until this was known, this part of the

anatomy was used in Beef Burgers and sausages, and occasionally contaminated

other parts of the carcass. It is STILL only an assumption that this disease

is contracted from BSE. There is still no scientific proof as to the origin.
