Giving the gift of trees

HOW do you like the idea of leaving behind a gift that will grow over the years

and benefit generations to come? The Malaysian Nature Society’s Tree Planting

Group (TPG) is offering individuals an opportunity to do just that with its Gift

of Trees programme.

For just RM100, TPG will purchase a forest tree sapling and plant it at the

donor’s preferred site from a list of sites identified by the group. Sponsors

will receive a certificate and a receipt for tax exemption.

TPG maintains a record of the location of the tree, type of tree and its

progress. This information is kept at the MNS headquarters and can be retrieved

upon request from donors.

This gift of a tree will also make an unconventional gift to a loved one for

special occasions. Recipients can witness the tree-planting or plant the trees

themselves.

Donors can also team up with friends and colleagues to create an avenue for

trees by purchasing 10 trees. With a donation of 25 trees they can have a

garden, while a mass donation of 50 trees would generate a woodland and a

collective gift of 100 trees would create a forest over time.

Mass planting will ease maintenance and is more effective in creating a natural

habitat. If the tree dies or is displaced by development projects, it would be

replaced by TPG.
