Norton vs. The Environment

DENlines (DEN Activists)

Tue, 02 Jul 2002 14:41:07 -0400

Dear DEN Member,

Gale Norton is compiling a record as perhaps the most

anti-environmental Interior secretary in the nation's history, and

the summer issue of our award-winning Defenders magazine--now

available online--details how her agenda threatens our wildlife and

wild lands.

We're calling it to your attention because it's an unusually

important story: There is growing evidence, in fact, that Norton is

engaged in a massive, behind-the-scenes campaign to weaken, undermine

and subvert the nation's conservation laws to benefit the

administration's big corporate supporters.

Also in this issue of our magazine, we explain how growing coffee

beans under the forest canopy has long-term benefits for wildlife and

farmers alike, and we go to the front lines of the tuna-dolphin wars

to describe the fight to save beleaguered dolphins from deadly tuna

nets.

There are also articles on endangered Mexican wolves gaining support

--and land--from the White Mountain Apache tribe in Arizona, and on

our new project to defend the environment state-by-state.

Please click here to read these stories and the rest of our summer

magazine: http://www.defenders.org/defendersmag/
