Perlis’ natural wonders

The White Meranti-Gerutu semi-deciduous forests which shed their leaves

during the prolonged dry season from April to June.

The stump-tailed macaque (Macaca arctoides), thought to be extinct in the

peninsula until three sightings were confirmed during the scientific expeditions

that followed 1999.

Sixteen species of cicada were recorded from the park. Five species, which

are new to Perlis, have yet to be named. The months from December to April are

said to be the best time to go into the jungles and listen to these insects.

The bogak (Cycas clivicola), an ancient palm-like plant that is targeted by

horticulturalists for the ornamental plant market.

The Firebird ginger (Zingiber mythianum) which has scarlet foliage was

discovered in the Perlis State Park last year.
