Guest guest
" Shirley McGreal " <spm primfocus: IPPL postcard campaign to Cameroon, Nigeria, and Malaysia IPPL has just started a letter-writing/postcard campaign about the " Taiping Four " gorilla case. The gorillas in questions were smuggled from Nigeria in January 2002 and are now at the Taiping Zoo in Malaysia. We are asking people to mail three pre-printed postcards. 1) We believe that the smuggled gorillas originated in Cameroon as they belong to a species not found in Nigeria. The IPPL postcard draws the shipment to the attention of Cameroonian authorities and asks them to do all they can to stop the cross-border flow of all wildlife into Nigeria and to request the return of the gorillas to a Cameroonian sanctuary. 2) It is obvious that the Nigerian Ministry of the Environment issued export certificates for the gorillas stating falsely that they were bred in captivity at Ibadan Zoo. In our postcards we ask the President of Nigeria to investigate any illegal or improper activities by Ibadan Zoo or government representatives. 3) The Taiping Zoo in Malaysia must have known that the gorillas were born at Ibadan Zoo and must also have known that gorillas are an endangered species caught by mother-killing (this is true of the orangutans and gibbons of Malaysia). We are asking people to send protest postcards to the zoo. Free postcards are available from IPPL. Please send your name and address and we'll mail you as many as you can use. If you live in the US, overseas postcards cost 70 cents to mail. If you have time to write a letter, one ounce letters cost 80 cents to mail. We would like to see some people outside the US join this protest.
