Brutal pet attacks horrify Tokyo residents

Police in the western Tokyo suburb of Tachikawa have

stepped up night patrols after at least five animals

were found killed in the streets and in a

kindergarten, officials said Saturday.

Police received an alert on the morning of May 9 after

a passerby found two cats brutally killed in the

streets of Tachikawa. One of them was beheaded,

Tachikawa police said.

About one month later, a rabbit was found dead with

stab wounds in the eyes and stomach in the rabbit

hutch of a local kindergarten. Tachikawa police

suspect someone fatally stabbed the pet with the tip

of an umbrella.

" We can't allow the killing of our kids' pets, " the

kindergarten's director was quoted as saying.

Another cat and rabbit have been found killed in

Tachikawa. The Tachikawa City Hall issued a warning to

the residents in the city against animal killers.
