One of the three tiger cubs that killed tigress Lakshmi at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday stood guard near the carcass whole night and went into its night shelter at 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday. Zoo officials could retrieve the carcass at 9 a.m., conducted autopsy and cremated in the morning. According to the autopsy report, the tigress died of asphyxiation due to water getting into its lungs. Meanwhile, 30 tigers and lions confiscated from `Famous Circus' at Bongaon in West Bengal landed at the Animal Rescue Centre here on Wednesday morning. The cages were unloaded with the help of a crane and 21 tigers and nine lions were accommodated in separate enclosures. A health team inspected all the animals at the ARC and the animals were found healthy in general. The Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden, Hitesh Malhotra, and the Nehru Zoological Park Director, A.V. Joseph, came here on Wednesday to take stock of the situation. The Visakhapatnam Zoo In-charge Curator, B. Vijay Kumar, and the doctor, Srinivas, had made all arrangements for receiving new animals.
