Guest guest
Hi, Our SBS Channel here in Australia screened this short documentary about a man who started a dogs refuge in Bosnia. He refused to fight in the war and was delegated to cleaning up corpses (of people). Dogs used to follow him and were killed by shrapnel (including his own dog who looked at her open wound then looked into his eyes and wagged her tail and died). He spoke of the futility, cruelty and madness of war. He had built this large dog refuge and made them all large cauldrons of food daily and they were all looked after well and some had been badly abused. He knew all the dogs by name. If anyone knows whether this man has received funding or help and/or is still going, I would love to know. He made a decision to help the animals and his actions show what one kind person can do in the face of adversity. Kind regards, Marguerite (see review below) DOCUMENTARY: A DOG'S LIFE Screened at the Venice Film Festival in 2000, this affecting documentary focuses on Vladimir, a young Bosnian with more than his fair share of tragedy, who can only find peace among the stray dogs, often mutilated, which roam around Sarajevo. Having built a refuge for the dogs, Vladimir knows the name, temperament, habits and fears of his four-legged companions, while keeping his story and mysteries to himself. (From France, in Bosnian, English subtitles).
