BBC withdraws dog meat comments from website

The BBC has removed a joke about South Koreans eating

dog meat from a World Cup website.

The joke was part of a Radio 5 Live travel guide

offering tips to England football fans.

It read: " Over here a dog is for Christmas, over there

it could be for breakfast, lunch or dinner. "

The Daily Mail reports the comment was removed after

complaints it was tasteless and offensive.

The BBC has apologised, saying it was simply a

misunderstanding.

A spokesman added: " There was never meant to be

anything offensive about the comments. "

Football fans visiting the World Cup in South Korea

will be offered dog meat soup, sandwiches and burgers.

Restaurateurs say free taster stalls will help dispel

western prejudices about their cuisine.
