Guest guest Posted April 14, 2002 Report Share Posted April 14, 2002 Sunday Morning Post 14th April 2002 Shanghai rabies crackdown The Shanghai Public Security Bureau has announced that from May 1 any dog found without an ownership licence will be immediately destroyed in a bid to stem rising rabies deaths caused by dog bites, Xinhua has reported. The Health Department announced 862 fatalities last year from rabies and that the virus has a fatal infection rate of 95.88 per cent, making it the top second-tier infectious disease in China, Xinhua reported.
