Shanghai rabies crackdown

The Shanghai Public Security Bureau has announced that from May 1 any dog

found without an ownership licence will be immediately destroyed in a bid to

stem rising rabies deaths caused by dog bites, Xinhua has reported. The

Health Department announced 862 fatalities last year from rabies and that

the virus has a fatal infection rate of 95.88 per cent, making it the top

second-tier infectious disease in China, Xinhua reported.
