Guest guest
Hi, I was surprised to see a major shelter here housing rabbits with poultry. The rabbits run through he poultry manure. I wrote to the shelter and mentioned I did not think it was good animal husbandry to keep the two species together. They have replied that their vet thinks it is acceptable to keep poultry with rabbits. This is the main shelter in my state that is able to take in rabbits. If there are any veterinarians on this list or anyone with information that may help me convince the shelter to seperate the poultry from the rabbits, please fax me at (International) 61 8 9457.2195 I am particularly interested in the threat to rabbits from ecoli salmonella pasturella and multocida or any other diseases carried by poultry that could harm rabbits. There are very few antibiotics available to rabbits and rabbits infected with enteritis can die fast. If anyone with vet qualifications can help I would be extremely grateful. Kind regards, Marguerite Wegner
