Guest guest
Dog saves family from fire AAP 05apr02 A STAFFORDSHIRE terrier called Roxy has been credited with saving a Melbourne family from a house fire. Mark Doyle's house at Upwey, in Melbourne's north, caught fire just after midnight. But Mr Doyle, who had fallen asleep on the couch, was woken by the eight-year-old dog in time to save his baby daughter from the blaze. " I just fell asleep to the Footy Show, " he told ABC Radio. " I woke up and the dog was giving me a bit of a rustle and I looked up and the roof was on fire. " She's a sensational dog, she's beautiful - she saved us and our baby. " Mr Doyle said smoke alarms went off after Roxy's early warning. A Country Fire Authority spokesman said the Doyles' two-storey weatherboard house was well ablaze when firefighters arrived. About 30 firefighters worked for 40 minutes to douse the flames, which caused an estimated $200,000 damage to the house and destroyed a car.
