Guest guest
(Britain) HOUSE OF LORDS REJECT OUTRIGHT HUNTING BAN The Lords last night voted overwhelmingly for fox hunting to be allowed to continue under licence. The Times dedicated another double-page spread to the issue. It flags a bloody confrontation with the Commons, which has voted for an outright ban. The paper reports that the RSPCA is to promote drag hunting, in which riders chase a human or artificial scent laid in advance, if fox hunting is indeed banned. What is it with the fashion industry? They just don't have a clue do they. Could you please call/write to both L'Oreal and Marie Claire to protest this? Tell them unless you receive a satisfactory response, you will not buy their product again. Chester Gipson, DVM Deputy Administrator of Animal Care U.S. Department of Agriculture Unit 97, 4700 River Rd. Riverdale, MD 20737 TELEPHONE: 301-734-4980 FAX: 301-734-4993 EMAIL: chester.a.gipson Revoke The Coulston's Foundation registration Dear Dr. Gipson: The following letter accurately expresses my views regarding this issue. I understand that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has once again cited The Coulston Foundation (TCF) for violating basic minimal standards of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). I am writing to request that TCF's registration be immediately revoked. In the latest inspection on January 16, 2002, the USDA found that the lab has inadequate veterinary staffing, is keeping at least 33 chimpanzees illegally housed in single cages, and does not have a working gas anesthesia machine. It was the 11th finding of inadequate veterinary care in the last four years, including the deaths of at least 14 chimpanzees. Again, I ask that TCF's registration be immediately revoked. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to your response. It has been in operation since the Middle Ages. Now, it is also a tourist attraction and a sanatorium. According to Kamila Julliard, who has recently visited the salt mine, a solitary horse is kept in the mine just like during the Middle Ages. The tour guide has explained that the horse is taken out every 3 months and she/he is provided with florescent light to prevent blindness. Apparently, keeping a horse in such conditions is against the Polish anti-cruelty law, but either the law is not enforced or the law enforcement is unaware of the situation. Please send letters to the officials of the Wieliczka salt mine and demand that the horse be sent to a sanctuary. This is cruel and barbaric. I urge you to release the horse to a sanctuary as soon as possible. According to a tourist, who has recently visited Wieliczka, a lone horse is kept in the mine like the Middle Ages. The tour guide has explained the horse is taken out every 3 months and that he or she is provided with fluorescent light to prevent blindness. Mahatma Gandhi has said, " The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. " If this is how animals are treated in Poland, then Poland is morally in the Middle Ages. Keeping a horse in such conditions is against the Polish anti cruelty law. Again, I demand the horse be released to a sanctuary. I will boycott Wieliczka as well as all Polish tourism and will urge all my friends and relatives to do the same until this cruelty is stopped. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter. I look forward to your reply. Sincerely,
