Although exhausted after the delivery, Andan, now the mother of three sons and six daughters, could feed and caress her fragile infant. The newborn giraffe, a male, was born at 18:40 on Wednesday, just three weeks short of the 15 month gestation period. Despite being premature, the 1.7 metre infant was able to stand up one hour after being born.
