Chris Furley, Chief examiner for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons,

05 March 2002, Tuesday 6:30 - 8:00 pm

Chris Furley, lecturer in Wildlife Health at the University of London, with

wide experience in zoo medicine in the UK, Middle East and Africa and

consultant for a number of wildlife projects and zoos, will meet and share

with you his medical insight on his work.

Chris Furley has worked for 20 yrs with zoo animals and wild life in 3

continents - he started off as consultant to the Government of Abu Dhabi for

6 years - working with both public zoos and private animal collections.

Since then he has been based in the UK, where he work with 1,500 captive

African and Asian elephants in captivity, plus the world's largest groups of

Asian leaf-eating monkeys.

He has been involved with a gorilla rescue and release program in the Congo

civil wars which nearly destroyed it.

He has also set up his own publishing company and published the world's only

journal which includes material on infectious agents of humans, animals and

the environment in an attempt to bring the medical and veterinary

professions together - The Infectious Disease Review.

He is also consultant for a number of wildlife projects and zoos in various

techniques and medical aspects of wildlife management programs dealing with

either re-introduction or park management.
