LARGE SCALE DOG THEFTS TAKING PLACE IN OHIO

PERMISSION TO CROSS POST GRANTED !!!

According to Channel 12 in Ohio, the state of Ohio is being targeted by a

national ring of dog-nappers.

The thieves are stealing dogs from fenced yards and larger dogs are being darted

with a fast-acting tranquilizer. The Ohio Attorney General is creating a

task force at the direction of Governor Taft and the FBI is getting involved to

try to stop these very organized thieves.

Please do not leave your companion animals unattended !

To learn more about this threat to your animals, please read the following

two-part article written by award winning author Judith Reitman

www.theatlantic.com/issues/2000/07/reitman.htm

It is from The Atlantic Monthly. The article is called " From Leash to

Laboratory " and regards why an animal should NEVER be left outside alone -- not

in a fenced yard, or outside a store, or anywhere that animal is left

unattended.

From the Leash to the Laboratory - 00.07 It was written TWO YEARS AGO.

What You Can Do:

1. SupportThe Pet Safety and Protection Act

The Pet Safety and Protection Act amends the Animal Welfare Act to prohibit

Class B (random source) dealers from supplying cats and dogs to research

facilities. Many of these animals may be stolen pets, strays, seized shelter

animals, or obtained through " free to good home " ads. The Act is sponsored by

Sens. Daniel Akaka (D-HI) and Bob Smith (R-NH) Please contact your senators, and

ask them to co-sponsor the Pet Safety and Protection Act. For your senator's

contact information, visit www.senate.gov

2. If you would like to distribute IDA Pet Theft Conspiracy brochures in your

community, please contact: anita and leave your snail

mailing address and the amount of literature you would like to receive.

3. If you would like to distribute IDA's PSA by contacting your local TV

stations, IDA will supply you with a very informative Pet Theft public service

announcement featuring the actress Rue Mc Clanahan. Please call

IDA's Stolen Pet Hotline AT: 1-800-Stolen Pet or 1-800-786-5673.
