Xia Jingying, an official with the association, said the committee would try mediation but has set no timetable for talks. Wuhan Wildlife Forest Park officials destroyed the outer body of the car in public after Mercedes-Benz failed to fix the engine several times last year. The Wuhan park in Central China's Hubei Province bought the sedan for 700,000 yuan (US$85,000) in December 2000 and claimed it developed engine faults within days. The sedan was brought to Beijing on Thursday for a " thorough " check-up by authorities. Mercedes-Benz said in its earlier statements that the problem with the car's engine was caused by " contaminated fuel " used by the park.
