Smuggler of turtles, lizards arrested

NARITA - Police and customs authorities have arrested a 48-year-old Japanese

man on suspicion of attempting to smuggle into Japan rare species of turtles

and lizards protected by the Washington Treaty, police sources said

Wednesday.

 

Hiroto Fujita, of Nakama in Fukuoka Prefecture, tried to smuggle 23 turtles

and four lizards into Japan when he arrived at Narita airport from Bangkok

on Dec 23 last year, they said.
