THE BANGKOK POST Thursday 20 December 2001

Man arrested over dog meat

A man was yesterday arrested and charged with trading uninspected meat after

he was allegedly found with 240kg of dried dog meat.

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Manop Ronthee, 28, while he was driving

a pick-up truck out of the Northern Bus Terminal on Kamphaeng Phet road.

Four sacks containing a total of 240kg of dog meat were allegedly found in

the truck.

Police said Manop claimed he had been hired by a Sakon Nakhon trader to

deliver the meat to customers at Bang Khae market in Thon Buri. He had done

this for about a year, receiving 300 baht a trip.

Manop said sex organs of male dogs were also demanded by Chinese restaurants

in Yaowarat.

A kilogramme of the sex organs cost 300-400 baht as it was believed to be an

aphrodisiac, he said.
