Krupa Loving Animals drives Fauna Focus - Adoptathon 2001 On December 16, 2001

Bangalore, December 13, 2001.Krupa Loving Animals announced the launch of FAUNA

FOCUS - ADOPTATHON 2001, a unique adoption programme that will enable

Bangaloreans to adopt a puppy or kitten and give them a home. Fauna Focus -

Adoptathon 2001, is designed to create awareness about the Animal-Birth-Control

(ABC) programme for street dogs, their adoption or their role as community dogs.

The nth in a series of Adoptathons organised and co-ordinated by Krupa, Fauna

Focus - Adoptathon 2001, has seen a surge in the adoptions of young stray

animals in the city, and brings people together, giving them a forum to express

themselves on caring for animals.

For Krupa Loving Animals, which makes a participative effort between animal

welfare NGOs, the local government body (i.e. BMP) and the public, the adoption

of homeless stray animals is a step forward. Adoption programmes encourage love

for homeless animals among young children and adults, and a responsibility

towards them, that go a long way in creating hope for countless stray and

abandoned pups and kittens in the city.

With more than a dozen adoption camps under their belt, and approximately 50

homeless Indian dogs who have found loving homes, Krupa is holding yet another

adoption programme this weekend, which will include pups that are as tiny as a

few weeks old upto 3 months of age. Past experience in adoption has shown that

stray and homeless pups can be as affectionate as other dogs and fiercely loyal

to their owners. They are hardy, rugged creatures that can be playmates or

soulmates to children and adults alike.

Krishna Gowda adopted a brown-eyed pup four months ago. He says, " Maggie is

such a beautiful dog, and we're so happy to have adopted her. We already have a

Daschund pup, but with Maggie, the family seems complete. They both get along

well with each other too. " Clifford Heri, a college going student came back

home after adopting a four week old Sheeba, who he informs, " is in fine health

and very adorable. " Bindu Nair and her 10-year-old son Ashwin are happy to have

given a stray pup, who they call Lassie, a home today. Bindu says nonchalantly,

" She's no great looker but she's lively, happy and cute. And getting a pup like

her helped both ways -Lassie found a stable home, while she filled up an

emotional void in us. We're family now. "

There are many more young couples and adults who have chosen to adopt a

homeless pup, and most of them, are happy with their wards. In fact as Bindu put

it, " When we went to Krupa, there were only bitches (female pups) available

because everybody had picked up the males. But I believe a dog is a dog, it

can't help its sex. Sure, I know people do find female pets troublesome, but

these days, you can spay them after they are one year old. "

So, bring home a bundle of joy. The adoption begins at Krupa Loving Animals,

Dasappa Maternity Hospital , SJP Road ( opp Town Hall, Near Canara Bank) at 10

in the am on Dec 16th 2001 and ends the same day at 5 pm. Krupa Loving Animals'

24-hour Helpline functions with the goal of empowering people with the

confidence to do their bit for animals. Counselling on all issues related to

animal welfare, rescue of sick and injured animals, on the spot treatment of

animals, co-ordination with other animal welfare NGOs, awareness programmes and

vaccination camps, adoption programmes are the main activities conducted by

Krupa's Helpline. Krupa is actively scouting for volunteers, welfare activists

and partners to help achieve their goal of Vasudeva Kutumbham - the whole world

is one family - all creatures great and small.
