Guest guest
Hi All, This is an urgent appeal and your help will save thousands of lives. Please help us save the lives of thousands of beautiful kittens and cats in Perth, Western Australia. Last year approximately 7,000 cats and kittens were euthanased by one welfare society in Perth. This carnage has to stop and money is needed for sterilisation and education programs. 1. The Problem ****************** In Perth, the capital city of Western Australia (population just over a million people), there are only three organisations taking in stray cats and kittens. The RSPCA and the APS (Animal Protection Society) only take in a few hundred cats and kittens and they are " no kill " shelters. The Cat Welfare Society (locally known as the Cat Haven) in Perth is the only remaining shelter to take in unwanted cats and kittens. The Cat Haven is not a " no kill " shelter. Sometimes the Cat Haven has room for kittens and cats and sometimes it does not. When the Cat Haven is full, cats and kittens taken there are euthanased because of limited facilities. Last year the Cat Welfare Society (Cat Haven) euthanased approximately 7000 cats and kittens. 2. How do we stop the slaughter - A positive result **************************************************************************** ****** The Cat Sterilisation Society of WA Inc has very limited funding yet everyone agrees sterilisation/desexing is the most important issue regarding pet cats. The Cat Sterilisation Society of WA Inc educates the public and SUBSIDISES THE STERILISATION OF CATS through a scheme with participating vets. The desexing fees are subsidised for low income earners. Being able to take cats to a local vet near their home for a subsidised fee is more likely to encourage people on low incomes to desex their pet cats. Sending a donation to the Cat Sterilisation Society of WA Inc will directly influence next years figures of Cat deaths through euthanasia of unwanted kittens and cats because the money donated goes STRAIGHT towards sterilising cats. The Cat Sterilisation Society of WA Inc also sends submissions to Governernment Agencies when inhumane or impractical regulations are promoted by agencies or politicians. The Society also urgently needs $3000 Australian to produce a professional educational video to be played in shopping centres and other venues to help educate the public about the need to desex cats, identification of cats and confinement of cats indoors at night. This video will be a positive and friendly video which may also help children understand the importance of pet ownership. The killing of thousands of helpless kittens and cats in Perth every year seems to have become habitual although numbers of euthanased cats have declined over several years. Cherry Leonard, President of the Cat Sterilisation Society of WA Inc. has a vision which I share of a compassionate society where all pet cats are valued and sterilised/desexed and the annual cat slaughter/euthanasia figures in Perth are significantly reduced. Please help us save the cats by donating to the Cat Sterilisation Society of Western Australia Inc. Donations can be sent to The Cat Sterilisation Society of Western Australia Inc, P.O. Box 28, Kelmscott, Western Australia 6991 To date, the Cat Sterilisation Society of WA Inc has helped sterilise/desex over 30,000 cats.
