FUR AT THE REJECT SHOP (MORE INFO)

We put out an email recently about figurines in Reject Shop outlets covered

in real fur. The 'cats' are labelled as rabbit fur and are made in China.

These trinkets are NOT just an Australian phenomenon. They are exported from

China to many countries around the world.

In fact, the Humane Society of the United States conducted an investigation

into these figurines and found that a large majority of them were made from

cat or dog fur, and that these animals died horrible deaths.

See the report here:

Contact Mr Saunders using the details below and suggest that he read this

report. Tell him that you and your friends will never again

shop at any Reject Shop while they support such blatant crueltly.

Here's the previous email:

Animals Australia contacted the Managing Director of the Reject Shop

expressing concerns about their support of the cruel fur trade; in

particular,

the rabbits used are likely to have been intensively farmed in small cages,

and China has no animal welfare laws. We also enquired whether the fur was a

ctually rabbit fur or possibly cat fur as some tabby-coloured 'cats' have a

ppeared in stores. They were unable to confirm either way, stating

" We do not have direct knowledge of all the circumstances related to all of

the raw

materials in all our products. "

Their response was that whilst they understand and respect our views, they

are not shared by the majority of people, that rabbits cause substantial

economic damage [in Chinese battery farms???], that they are operating

within

the law and will continue to do so as customers " find them enjoyable " .

Clearly, the Reject Shop has no concern for animal welfare. Maybe they will

listen to consumer demand.

Please contact the Reject Shop and voice your objection.

THE ROMAN ARMY THRIVED ON NON-ANIMAL DIET

" Food in the Roman camp was simple: bread or porridge, some vegetables,

sour wine, rarely flesh; the Roman army conquered the world on a vegetarian

diet; Caesar's troops complained when corn ran out and they had to eat

meat. "
