Guest guest
A number of articles are appearing in the Korean newspapers these days regarding the actions of the FIFA president to help the plight of dogs in Korea prior to the World Cup. In the english language dailies Korean Herald and Korea Times letters have been both ways and two days ago an excellent article appeared by a Korean man on the false discrepancy between a food dog and a pet dog (a distinction which allows Koreans to " have their dog and eat it to " ). The Korean newspapers have been decidedly pro-dog meat in their slant. The same old arguments are presented - " you eat this animal we eat this one " and the idea is that it is a foreign action against an unfamiliar or strange custom (akin to escargot). It seems as if they are avoiding entirely any notions of illtreatment and trying to paint the issue as simply a cultural attack. There seems an a certain obliviousness to actions for animals in areas outside of Korea. As well, the Korean papers are presenting the opinion that Jong Mong Joon, vice-president of FIFA, is resistant to the recommendations of FIFA President Blatter, somewhat of a contrast to english versions of it that I have heard.
