The Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry said it detected the disease Sunday in chicken imports from China. The disease, which can cause conjunctivitis in humans, can be prevented by vaccinating poultry. Newcastle disease was also discovered in chicken imported from China in July, but the farm that was the source of the virus could not be determined. In Japan, the disease was found in Nagano Prefecture in June and in Kagoshima Prefecture in September.
