Our hearts go out to all of our American friends and supporters and we join you in grief for all those whose lives were lost or affected. May we join together in strength - and towards greater compassion for all life. We are touched that so many people are thinking of the animals at this time and although our next website installment of the China Bear Rescue is due to go up in a few weeks, we would like to share some news with all of you who have supported this project. Just this weekend, the thirtieth bear farm was closed down by the government of Sichuan Province and all six bears arrived at our Rescue Centre. Their condition was shocking. As the truck came through the gates, rusting cages containing frightened, bone thin animals passed in front of our eyes. Boris and his staff carefully offloaded the cages whilst the rest of the team assessed the condition of the bears inside. One by one, we counted five of the six bears missing limbs, one without an eye and two with dirty metal catheters protruding from their abdomens. Their recovery has just begun, and we can only hope that all will survive.... All being well, in a few short months these animals will follow in the pawprints of our fifty eight bears recovering at the centre. Just last week we watched with tears in our eyes as no less than 10 bears played together in the rain; frolicking on wet grass and digging for roots in the soft ground. Our next " Follow the Rescue " webpage update will follow soon with the latest news and pictures of our recent arrivals but, for now, our grateful thanks for your faith, help and support towards closing down the farms - and bringing these new bears home Warm wishes, Jill
