Passing this on from Shiba-LJane Chalfantjchalfant

I'm sure we are all wondering what we can do and how we can help with these acts of terrorism. I'm sure within the next 24 hours canine search teams will be sent to New York and Washington to search for survivors and those who perished in this heinous act. I'm sure these volunteers could use donations to help defray the expense of all this for them and/or who ever normally helps fund these groups. We can all keep our eyes open for postings on the AKC/UKC/CKC web sites and I'm sure other sites as to where we can send monetary donations to these groups. When I head off to my kennel club meeting tomorrow, I plan to make a motion that my club also makes a sizable donation. If we can't be in New York and Washington to help, it's the very least we can do. I was in Baltimore today when I heard the news - an hour and a half from home. Major highways were shut down and the city streets were in gridlock. It took me over 5 hours to get home. It was actually due to attending dog shows in Baltimore and "dog friends" guiding me on my cell phone that I was able to find a route out of the city. As annoying as it was, I was lucky. Nobody tried to kill me today. I made it home. Thousands will never return home today. There are people in our own dog community (and members of this list) who had friends in the World Trade Center today. After several hours of not knowing what had happened to their best friend, they received a call telling them he had made it out alive and was on his way home. In honor of those who lived and those who didn't, and those phenonimal firefighters, police, paramedics, EMTS, doctors, nurses and especially the "canine cops", if we can give them a fraction of what they give to us each day on the job, we might just make this world a better place - one step at a time. (Feel free to crosspost this to other lists if you think you can encourage just one person to help)****************************************************************************
