XINING

A patrol group combating Tibetan antelope poachers returned to the city of

Golmud in Northwest China's Qinghai Province at 3 am on Monday, after being

stranded in Hoh Xil Nature Reserve for nearly eight days.

The reserve, in the highlands of the province, is home to endangered Tibetan

antelopes. The seven members, driving a jeep on a mission to trace poachers,

were trapped in a sandy river in the reserve's hinterland at night of July

22. They were chasing two jeeps which were suspected of being poachers'

vehicles. The group had escaped trouble with the help of local farmers and

some geologists when a six-strong rescue team arrived.
