Hello group

I received this email from the Mayor of Moran, Kun

Goh, in reply to an email complaining about the

conditions at the Moran market.

It's the usual brush off; he says the many laws

protecting animals from abuse in Korea just need a

little " strengthening " for them to be " well abided

by " !!

He's also passed the buck saying the market is the

provence of Seongnam City Government.

But all the same, I was glad I wrote him and that he

had the courtesy to write back. And maybe it's a vain

hope, but I hope he really is 'disturbed and sorry'

about the treatment of animals at the market. ~ At

least we can assume he's disturbed and sorry to be

getting emails from us about it!

Dear Cate,

Thank you for your e-mail message showing your deep

affection toward pets and animals. I am also deeply

disturbed and sorry to learn the terrible treatment

against pets and animals at Moran Market and other

places.

As a matter of fact, legal protection is given to pets

and animals throughout the country. The national and

local laws include rules and regulations aimed at

protecting pets and animals from being abused. But,

clearly, we need to strengthen our efforts to enforce

the rules and regulations to make sure that they are

well abided by.

As for the Moran Market, it is under the jurisdiction

of Seongnam City Government under the umbrella of

Kyonggi Province. Thus, I transferred your e-mail to

the proper authority and urged them to take necessary

actions on this matter including thorough

investigations as soon as possible.

I expect that necessary measures will be taken sooner

or later. Once again, I appreciate your deep affection

for pets and animals.

Sincerely,

Goh, Kun

Mayor of Seoul
