Guest guest
Anti Dogmeat Movement Headquarters Boycott 2002 FIFA World Cup News Anti-Dog Meat Demonstration A large-scale demonstration, jointly sponsored by several animal groups like ADMH, KAPCA, KAPS, will be held in the center of Seoul, on July 15th. Most of the animal rights activists in Korea are going to take part in this, and this will be given a lot of coverage. We've prepared this demonstration for a long time. And we're planning to take a campaign to collect signatures and photo exhibition, and distribute the brochures. Besides, There'll be held a same one in the U.S and England on July 16th. The members as well as the sympathizers continue to increase steadily through this movement. We wrote many letters to President Kim and got answered that he had no will to legalize the dog meat. But they don't make any efforts to punish the illegal act. Only when International pressure will move them. 2008 Peiking Summer Olympics For the past years, the Chinese government put all its might to host the 2008 Summer Olympics. The Olympic game is important for the Chinese Government to encourage the economic development and the Chinese people. In this respect the international animal rights groups should deals with the dog meat problem in China. The pig farms went under, so the dog farms are increasing in China. The Chinese have had the dog meat for a long time, so they lack pity for dogs, in addition they have no animal rights groups organized. Once we apply the brake to the dog meat, they'll judge the situation and then take action. As an autocratic state, they might be more easier to forbid dog meat than Korea. If Chinese Government ban the dog meat, it will be a good precedent for Korea. Animal Shelters in Korea There are 6-7 animal shelters in Korea. A few people who had will to protect abandoned animals had started to build the dugout in the 1980s and it became known in the 1990s. Since then some people have learned and volunteered for it. The higher the number of the apartments in the city, the more dogs are abandoned. Some people sell the dogs to the dog butchers, while some leave the dog on the street. If they are found by animal right activists, they are sent to the animal shelter. However if they are found by the self-governing community, they are sent to the Korean Animal Rescue and Management Association(KARMA), where the dogs die of an illness or euthanasia. Most of the private shelters are in a very difficult situation now. The land owners are always try to drive these shelters out. Moreover, the local residents oppose the moving strongly. We try to persuade the members to adopt the abandoned dogs, but it's not so easy. As most of them has houses without yard for the big dogs. Because of the lack of publicity activities, we hardly had any supports. Recently a voluntary helper(Mr. vmuravyov, vmuravyov) make generous donations to aid the Sangju Animal Shelter. We'll support not only these animal shelters but the anti-dog meat movement. Please forward this mail to your friends Translated By Ms Jung-ah Han (ddolddolmom, ADMH member).
