Guest guest
(My comment) .. The kangaroo slaughter issue and native animals for pets issue are very important here in Australia. Both issues involve senseless cruelty to animals of all ages. Kangaroos are exploited, killed, bashed to death, joeys starve to death and such. The second issue of making pets of native animals is bizarre. People from the Australian Museum have supported the use of native animals as pets (ie a philosophy of getting rid of all the cats and keep poor native animals as pets instead!) No thought is given to the poor animals (exploit, exploit, exploit) and there will be those breeders who start churning out native animals for money (who is going to rescue the unwanted native animals once the novelty wears off and they are dumped? What about the emergence of feeder animals etc for native carnivores- more suffering.? We have enough trouble with homeless cats, dogs, rabbits and other pets without adding more poor lives to the unwanted poor defenceless animal lives who end up abandoned on the streets and in refuges). .....Marguerite (Western Australia) Fwd from Animal Liberation in Australia Juliet Gellatley - the Director of the UK animal welfare organisation,Viva! is coming to Sydney. Box 211 Gladesville NSW 2111 -------- THE KANGAROO An orphaned joey dies a pitiful death of exposure and dehydration, either i n the putrefying pouch of the dead mother or helpless in its separation fro m the only safe place it has ever known. In their panic, older roos who esc ape the slaughter often suffer injuries or stress so profound they lead to a slow, wasting death. Without the guidance and example of the dominant adults which are the hunte rs' favoured target, adolescents fail to learn the life skills essential to healthy survival. And without those dominant adults, each mob breeds from a steadily weakening gene pool. ____
