Guest guest
China bans use of protected animals in health products ENDANGERED ENDEAVOR: Protected animals, plants banned from use in health products (25 June 2001) China's Ministry of Health (MOH) is taking steps to protect the country's wildlife from use and abuse by health-related industries. In order to protect the wild plants and animals, the MOH issued a notice on June 22 banning the use of top- and second-level protected wild animals, plants and their byproducts as ingredients in health-related products, reported the same day's Xinhuashe (Xinhua News Agency). According to the MOH, the " protected wild animals and plants " include any animal or plant species on the State Council's published list. The list was jointly established by the State Council's administrative departments in charge of agriculture, fishery and forestry, according to the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Wildlife, Regulations for the Protection of Wild Plants of the People's Republic of China and other relevant Chinese laws and regulations. The MOH added that domesticated, propagated or cultivated top and second-level protected wild animals and plants, as well as their byproducts, are also not allowed to be used as ingredients in health products, the article said.
