Newsletter from the Voice for Animals Our street campaign to genetically modified animals. After the public hearing, animal oranizations are staging street campaign against the genetically modified animals. The goal to demand the National committe on bioethics to coniser animal welfare in their legislation proposal. Members from the Voice for Animals, Korean Alliance to Prevent Cruelty to Animals, Animals Freedom Korea, Korea Vegetarian World Union, ADMH and other volunteers from environmental groups including the KFEM appeared in the street of MyungDong, one of the busiest part of Seoul City on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th of June and attracted many passers-by. Their reactions to the horrible pictures of suffering animals were not any different to those of animal protection activists. So far we could gain about 3,000 citizens names and their remarks on the practice. These will be presented to the National Advisory Bioethics Commission and Mimistry of Science and Technology. Among the remarks of the citizens who participated in our efforts include: " This is unbelievable. This is too horrific. " " How could a human being this so cruel to animals. " " I never knew this kind of cruelty in my life before.I really never knew this before. " " Please, save thse animals. Scientists and government should know that we care. " The street campaining will still go on every weekends as we didnt expect this much interest to this new fact of the citizens. Also other attempts are still being made, including talking to journalism and trying to find more cases that we can make public so that this issue also becomes known to the nation. The hottest issue on the law is about research with human embryo but also it has a section for animals, having 7 provisions. We are very sorry to let you know that using animals for virtually for every purpose is allowed. We will be able to share the contents with you on your requests.
