Guest guest
NT hopes world has no beef with crocs (West Australian Newspaper 11/6/2001) Singapore. Croc kebabs, Croc burgers, Croc steaks and croc sausages. Crocodiles will become mainstays on menus around the world if the Northern Territory Government [Australia] has its way. The Territory is promoting local exotic meats such as crocodile as alternatives to beef. Government official Rosemary Peacock handed out grilled crocodile kebabs, buffalo sausages and other exotic meats to food industry representatives at an international food trade fair in Singapore at the weekend. Ms Peacock said the move was part of the global food industry's scramble to cope with public fears over mad cow diseaseand other health related food crises. Mad cow and other scares such as dioxin, deadly bacteria and foot and mouth disease have caused demand for beef to fall in Asia and Europe. Australian cattle have not been linked to mad cow disease, but Ms Peacock said there had been no jump in demand for the country's beef from Europe. That is why alternative meats were being promoted for export. -Associated Press
