Guest guest
Dear BioGems Defender, We are writing to ask for your urgently needed help to protect the Olivillo coastal rainforest in southern Chile, the most fragile and threatened portion of South America's only temperate evergreen rainforest. This Tuesday, June 5th, the Chilean government will decide whether to proceed with a roadbuilding project that would open vast stretches of the forest to logging, or to look for alternatives that would spare this biological treasure. Please take a moment to visit NRDC's BioGems website at http://www.savebiogems.org/watchlist/ and click on 'Save this Wildland' to send a message to Chile's minister of foreign relations and a senator who is the road's main proponent, encouraging them to cancel the road and protect the Olivillo coastal forest. Earlier this year, pressure from BioGems Defenders helped stop Boise-Cascade from building a chip mill that would have devastated this area. BioGems Defenders also helped persuade the Chilean government to postpone construction of the southern coastal road during a two-month review period, which is now coming to an end. We know you've taken action on behalf of other Latin American BioGems (and we thank you), so we know you care about preserving and protecting fragile ecosystems in this part of the world. We are sure we can win this battle if enough of you write to Chile's decisionmakers by June 4th. Please go to http://www.savebiogems.org/watchlist/ and send your message *today*.
