Forwarded information from Bev at Helping Animals

Attn: Connecticut Activists,

Kathryn Burton, president of SOS, “Save Our Swans“

head-quartered in CT, reports that Maryland is

bringing in sharpshooters to kill mute swans on

Chesapeake Bay and that Pennsylvania has authorized

the hunting of all types of swans, further evidence

that the US Fish and Wildlife campaign against the

mute swan is indeed spreading up the East Coast.

Opponents of the mute swan call it a “non-native“

which Kathryn's research has shown to be a

ridiculously weak argument, since she has found

records of the mute swan in North America 9,500 years

ago! In Md. the mute swans are being replaced with the

trumpeter swan, larger and considered a hunting

trophy. Kathryn urges immediate calls to your local

senator and rep in Hartford, mentioning the mute swan

in particular as one of the species likely to be

attacked by DEP if the agency receives the

extra-ordinary powers that RB 1214 would grant to

them. As a species that shares habitat with the duck

hunter's favorite, the mute swan has been targeted

officially and nationally by US Fish and Wildlife.

CT's bill RB 1214 would give DEP extermination powers

over all species, even the traditionally non-game

species,(for what they consider ecological or

agricultural damage) which is one of the many reasons

it should be defeated. Action on RB 1214 will be

happening quickly, either back in committee or on the

floor so please make your calls right away and ask

everyone who loves animals to do the same. For further

info. please call the hotline at 1-800-691-9775,

leaving your message. You can reach SOS at

kburton759 (aol.com).

Please OPPOSE RB 1214, An Act Concerning Wildlife

Management Programs of the Department of Environmental

Protection

Dear (Representative/Senator) (full name),

As I write this letter, Maryland is bringing in

sharpshooters to kill mute swans on Chesapeake Bay,

and Pennsylvania has authorized the hunting of all

types of swans, further evidence that the US Fish and

Wildlife campaign against the mute swan is indeed

spreading up the East Coast. Opponents of the mute

swan call it a “non-native,“ which research has shown

to be a weak argument, since records of the mute swan

in North America date back 9,500 years ago! In

Maryland the mute swans are being replaced with the

larger trumpeter swan, which is considered a hunting

trophy.

The mute swan in particular is one of the species

likely to be attacked by the DEP if the agency

receives the extraordinary powers that RB 1214 would

grant to them. The mute swan has been targeted

officially and nationally by US Fish and Wildlife.

Connecticut's bill RB 1214 would give the DEP

extermination powers over all species, even the

traditionally non-game species, for what they consider

ecological or agricultural damage, which is one of the

many reasons it should be defeated.

I hope I can count on your support to DEFEAT RB 1214.

Thank you for your valuable time and consideration. I

look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
