Beijing is bidding to host the 2008 Olympic games and is currently the front runner - a final decision will be made in July this year.

The WSPA is urging the public and the International Olympic Committee to vote no to Beijing so long as they continue to keep thousands of bears in miserable conditions on bear farms. Until China bans the bear farms they should not be allowed to host such an international event.

Recently China has claimed it is reducing the number of bear farms - but what they do not say is that the numbers of bears in cages is increasing. Six years ago there were around 600 bear farms with 6000 bears in China, today there are just over 200 bear farms - but with over 7000 bears! The aim seems to be to consolidate the bear farm industry into a few very large farms!

For further information see the web site: <http://www.wspa.org.uk/campaigns/bearfarming/olympics1.html>

Please circulate this web site and urge people to use it to send an e-mail letter of protest to the IOC and the Mayor of Beijing. There are under 80 days left to register your protest.
