Guest guest
Contraceptive Frankenfoods are a threat to future animal and human populations. 12.4.2001 (ANZ activists network) Modified potatoes grown by the Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research in the United States have been successful in delivering fertility control vaccine to possums in New Zealand. The Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research in the United States is a world leader in developing plant-based vaccines for humans. Opponents of the new Frankenfoods say world powers could use GE contraceptive foods to forcibly stabilise human populations. Landcare Research in New Zealand has been granted approval to import genetically modified carrots and potatoes into containment in New Zealand, for feeding trials with possums in May 2001. Wild introduced Australian possums are a pest species in New Zealand. Opponents of the GE vegetables say the development of foods causing infertility could be the making of a high tech genocidal time bomb using gene research. " Proof of concept places virtually all species at risk within the very short time it takes to substitute another species protein. Or better yet just get those potatoes busy generating a whole variety of proteins, one for each species you do not like, " said one researcher. Landcare Research and Marsupial Cooperative Research Centre confirmed that plants producing foreign proteins are a good system for delivering a fertility control vaccine for possums in a bait. Landcare Research said " This is the next step towards development of baits that work as birth control for possums. " Opponents of the GE food baits say once again the island nation of New Zealand is being used for open air biological warfare experiments. New Zealand and Australia have been called open air laboratories because they are the only countries in the world deliberately spreading RCD, a viral haemorrhagic disease which kills wild introduced European rabbits.
