Guest guest
CHANGSHA http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/ Hu Zhiyi, a poacher of rare birds, has been sentenced to two years in prison in Central China's Hunan Province. Hu illegally entered the Dongting Lake area, one of China's largest habitats for winter migrating birds, with six accomplices in October last year, taking over 460 small white-foreheaded geese and swan geese, which are on China's preserved animal list. Most of the birds at the lake fly northwards at this time of year. This was the biggest such case in the area, according to sources with the local police. Three of Hu's accomplices were given jail sentences of eight months to one year by the court in Yueyang, where Dongting, China's second largest freshwater lake, is located. The others received lighter sentences such as fines.
