in the light of current trends and what several writers on IT, biotechnology

(including genetic engineering), nanotechnology, politics and economics, and

bioregionalism are telling us recently, and then exchange opinions on where

we think we are headed. (Please see more on participation below.)

11:05-11:50: Discussion on the presentation: Moderated by Patrick McNally

11:50 to 13:20: Lunch -- (please bring your own bag lunch or go to one of

the many nearby restaurants. There will be no food available at the venue.)

90 minutes is given for lunch in order to give everyone time to talk,

network with others and so on.

13:20-14:45: Panel Discussion on Environmental Issues in Japan:

Connecting Japan to the Global Environment: Moderated by Jacob Reiner

participation and discussion.)

This panel discussion will include presentations by:

Juan Castillo on sustainability and the Natural Step (greening economics and

business),

movement in Japan,

Caitlin Stronell from the New Internationalist magazine on Japan, the

environment, and human rights,

Natural Resource Consumption.

Moderated by Guy Exeley

(Each presentation will be ten minutes long, with 45 minutes for audience

participation and discussion.)

This session will include presentations by

labor activist John McLaughlin on issue-focused labor union networks and

labor-related NGOs in Japan

Kathy Riley of WELL (Women in Education and Language Learning) and editor of

GALE (the gender issues section of the Japan Association of Language

Teachers) and Barbara Summerhawk on Connecting Women in Japan

Mikiko Fukuda Green Politics in Japan, NGOs, and Green Political Organizing

and Richard Evanoff of the U.S. Greens Abroad on international Green

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE SPEAKERS...

A proposal will also be presented to launch an International Green Network

intended to facilitate cooperation between both Japanese and foreigners on a

variety of issues, including environmental concerns, alternative businesses

and fair trade, NGO activities, labor issues, and Green politics.

The ultimate aim of the forum is to bring people together so that we can

learn from each other and help build a stronger, more effective

international Green movement in Japan.
