About 6-7 minutes walk from Shibuya Station.How to get there (bilingual map) Format and Content Morning Session 10:00-10:30: Doors open; coffee/tea 10:30-10:35: WELCOME: Richard Evanoff 10:35-11:05: Keynote Presentation: The New Millenium: Where (the hell) are we going? (Tony Boys) I intend to focus on Japan, but not exclusively. The idea of the presentation and long discussion will be to look at several possible futures in the light of current trends and what several writers on IT, biotechnology (including genetic engineering), nanotechnology, politics and economics, and bioregionalism are telling us recently, and then exchange opinions on where we think we are headed. (Please see more on participation below.) 11:05-11:50: Discussion on the presentation: Moderated by Patrick McNally 11:50 to 13:20: Lunch -- (please bring your own bag lunch or go to one of the many nearby restaurants. There will be no food available at the venue.) 90 minutes is given for lunch in order to give everyone time to talk, network with others and so on. Afternoon Session 13:20-14:45: Panel Discussion on Environmental Issues in Japan: Connecting Japan to the Global Environment: Moderated by Jacob Reiner (Each presentation will be ten minutes long, with 45 minutes for audience participation and discussion.) This panel discussion will include presentations by: Juan Castillo on sustainability and the Natural Step (greening economics and business), Serena Sato from The Fair Trade Company and Global Village on the fair trade movement in Japan, Caitlin Stronell from the New Internationalist magazine on Japan, the environment, and human rights, and environmental writer Rick Wilcox Depleting the Biosphere: Japan and Natural Resource Consumption. 14:45-15:05: Tea/Coffee break 15:05 to 16:30: Panel Discussion entitled Getting Organized Internationally, Moderated by Guy Exeley (Each presentation will be ten minutes long, with 45 minutes for audience participation and discussion.) This session will include presentations by labor activist John McLaughlin on issue-focused labor union networks and labor-related NGOs in Japan Kathy Riley of WELL (Women in Education and Language Learning) and editor of GALE (the gender issues section of the Japan Association of Language Teachers) and Barbara Summerhawk on Connecting Women in Japan Mikiko Fukuda Green Politics in Japan, NGOs, and Green Political Organizing and Richard Evanoff of the U.S. Greens Abroad on international Green organizing in Japan. MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE SPEAKERS... A proposal will also be presented to launch an International Green Network intended to facilitate cooperation between both Japanese and foreigners on a variety of issues, including environmental concerns, alternative businesses and fair trade, NGO activities, labor issues, and Green politics. The ultimate aim of the forum is to bring people together so that we can learn from each other and help build a stronger, more effective international Green movement in Japan.
