Guest guest
Hi All, I've updated the protest letter against RCD baits. http://www.iinet.net.au/~rabbit/protester.htm It is crucial that as many people as possible write and protest against the possibility of the RCD baits being legalised in Australia NOW. Please ask all your friends to email this letter (or write their own) to those on the letter head at the above web address. CC anyone else you feel may be able to help. Please note we have been denied access to the RCD bait data for 2 years and a final appeal is being prolonged by authorities who are now quoting parts of the FOI Act not quoted before as well as asking for MORE time to consider our application. In the meantime the RCD baits could be legalised with flawed scientific opinions and data as the basis for approval. Why hasn't an Environmental Impact Statement been prepared on this issue? Why doesn't anyone care that Australian wedge-tailed eagle numbers have dropped 30-40%? What about the lack of studies to detemine whether Australian native animals are susceptible to the RCD disease? Why does no-one care about the horrible suffering in wild rabbits caused by RCD and the fact that NZ wild rabbits dosed with RCD baits have died prolonged deaths over weeks with their ears rotting away while they die? Australian authorities provided with this information are ignoring the issues. The original RCD studies used DELIBERATELY low doses of RCD virus to infect Australian native animals and even so , some native animals tested POSITIVE to RCD by the criteria of the Australian authorities own tests! Spreading RCD on baits (most likely carrots) will enable kangaroos and other Australian native animals to ingest this virus in doses never seen before with unknown consequences. The RCD virus may not directly KILL other species (no-one can predict the outcome of this saga long-term) but the disease could make other animals sick so they cannot hunt or so they suffer abortions or are affected in many other ways such as disruptions to the food chain. There is a complete lack of knowledge of the long term effects of this disgusting experiment in germ warfare against animals using RCD virus on carrot baits and possibly " loaded fleas " (fleas loaded with live RCD virus). Please help Australian animals and register YOUR protest now. Kind regards, Marguerite
